North American Sales Manager - Sensing/Automation Products

Our client is a start-up company providing award winning sensing and control technologies for the automation industry. The company is currently servicing customers in the roll-to-roll (web-handling)/converting industry with its unique sensing technologies for web guiding, width measurement, etc. The company is expanding its sensing and control capabilities to address the needs in the general industrial automation industry.

They are looking for a sales professional with passion, desire and drive to sell innovative, disruptive products for the automation industry. An ideal candidate would be energetic, outgoing, curious and eager to learn in a dynamic and fast paced environment.

The candidate would own North American sales activities and results of the young company with a tremendous opportunity to grow the organization to be a leader in sensing and control products for the automation industry. A successful candidate would also have the opportunity to build their own direct and indirect sales channel team.

As the North American Sales Manager, the candidate will be responsible for the overall sales in the region by spearheading customer acquisition and retention, manage indirect sales channel partners and provide strategic support to internal departments to meet or exceed customer expectations.

Customer Acquisition and Retention
  • Proactively develop business opportunities directly with new and existing customers.
  • Manage the RFQ process to ensure that the quotes are delivered timely and accurate to the potential customers, and questions or issues are addressed in a timely manner.
  • Coordinate and facilitate in-person and remote discussions with customers to nurture leads to sales.
  • Maintain a positive relationship with current and potential customers with clear communication in a timely manner and with a sense of urgency.
  • Proactively build good customer relationships with regular communication via telephone, email and in-person meetings as necessary.
  • Be well versed in the company offerings in order to demonstrate products and effectively communicate the company's capabilities to potential customers.
Sales Channel Management
  • Develop and grow sales channel partner network.
  • Work closely with the indirect sales channel partners such as manufacturer's representatives and distributors to grow the customer reach of the company.
  • Maintain positive working relationships with the sales channel partners by communicating clearly and in a timely manner.
  • Assist sales channel partners through periodic sales meetings, and any other events as necessary.
  • Compile sales channel partner statistics and evaluate their performance on a regular basis.
  • Review findings with company management and make recommendations to meet sales targets.

Strategic Support to Internal Departments
  • Participate in tradeshows and other marketing events.
  • Provide strategic insights to marketing department to better attract and retain customers.
  • Represent the company professionally with a positive, courteous and outgoing personality.
  • Work closely with the product development team to communicate feedback from customers about existing and new products.
  • Effectively work with internal departments such as product development, operations, etc., to resolve complex administrative and service related issues to ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Prepare and analyze sales reports, coordinate with management on setting sales goals, and forecast sales related to sales goals.
  • Identify and analyze problems. Implement recommendations for resolution of problems.
Desired Qualifications
  • The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's degree in an appropriate technical discipline. However, candidates with relevant experience are also welcome to apply.
  • At least 5 years technical sales experience in the automation industry, or comparable experience; preferably with application-specific product solution RFQs.
  • A proven track record of meeting sales objectives.
  • A strong understanding of customer relationship management (CRM) systems to aid in effective customer acquisition and retention, preferably with Zoho CRM system and Google for Work familiarity.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
