Lead Controls Engineer - Automotive

Our client builds and integrates world-class automation systems leveraging the use of robotics and machine vision. They solve unique and challenging manufacturing problems for customers in many industries including Automotive, Food and Beverage, and Consumer Packaged Goods.  They are searching for a Lead Controls Engineer for their San Antonio office. The Lead Controls Engineer will be involved in the design, programming and commissioning of controls aspects of projects including PLC’s, robots, motion control and vision systems and will remain 80% technically hands-on.

  • Manage a team to execute customer projects and aligns with company's corporate strategy and growth plans
  • Eventually manage people, assets and projects in a way that maximizes financial contribution to bottom line
  • Eventually support, mentor and assist employees with their career growth by providing and delivering strong leadership for the branch; direct local technical operations
  • Partner with National Account Manager in seeking opportunities and strategic alliances

  • BS Degree in Engineering - Electrical, Mechanical or other related degree
  • Minimum 10 years of industry experience with:
    • AutoCAD
    • PLC Programming: Allen-Bradley, Toyopuc would be an asset
    • HMI Design: Allen-Bradley, Schneider and Siemens would be an asset
    • SCADA Systems: Wonderware, RSView, WinCC
    • Vision: Cognex and Omron
    • Motion Control: Allen-Bradley and Mitsubishi
    • Robot Programming: Fanuc, Kawasaki would be an asset
    • Safety Systems design and program: Pilz, Allen-Bradley, Omron
    • Commissioning: Local and out of town, some travel outside of US
    • Troubleshooting/Testing/Debugging
  • Experienced in any of the following industries: Automotive, Food & Beverage, Consumer Packaged Goods
  • Outstanding communication skills, both oral and written
  • Possesses excellent business acumen and an ability to work with clients
  • Ability to overcome challenges and handle complex situations
  • Well-rounded skill-set (people, business, technology, etc.)
  • Thorough understanding of local business climate
  • Ability to motivate people while maintaining a positive business relationship
  • Delivers consistent feedback in a fair and positive manner
